I have a new not-so-guilty pleasure: Mushroom Veggie Burgers from @Woolworths. On a toasted sourdough bun, on top of a mound of greens, cold in lunch boxes, I can’t get enough of them. It must be that essential note of umami we’ve been chatting about! I love the fact that mushrooms make everything taste better. In case you were wondering which other ingredients were high in umami, so you can pair them with mushrooms, of course, the list includes:
* Poultry, beef and pork.
* Anchovies, tuna, salmon and oysters.
* Garden vegetables like corn, tomatoes, potatoes, red bell peppers and squash.
* Parmigiano-Reggiano, blue-veined cheese, emmentaler, cheddar and eggs.
* White beans, black beans and lentils.
* Fish sauce, tomato sauce and Worcestershire sauce.
