Curry bite


Things on sticks are vital to festive season gatherings! And as curry is so beloved by all South Africans, we suggest you make loads of these Mushroom Tikka nibbles, and not bother with the usual meatballs! #curry #festive #canapé

Serves 2


15 small fresh mushrooms
2tbsp plain yoghurt
½tsp red chilli powder (adjust to taste)
¼tsp roasted cumin (jeera) powder
½tsp garam masala or chaat masala
1-2tbsp chickpea (gram) flour
½tsp garlic paste
¼tsp ginger paste (optional) salt

4tbsp oil



1 Lightly brush mushrooms to remove dirt and dust. Place in a bowl.

2 Add the remaining ingredients (except oil) to the mushrooms and mix gently by hand.

3 Set aside for about 30 minutes to an hour.

4 Heat the oil in a large pan and fry the mushrooms until nicely browned.

5 Stick toothpicks through the mushrooms and serve with green chutney, raw onions and lemon pieces.
